Is That Jon Wells on the Red Carpet?

While I have volunteered at ManEx at Experience Camps for the past nine summers organizing the final banquet, photo squad and VIT program, I have been extremely fortunate to return to Camp Manitou after a very long break. I was a camper with my two brothers many years ago (to give you an idea of how long, there were only 30 campers on my College League teams!). “Wells Boys to the office for a phone call” was heard over the PA on most Sundays for many years.  My brother Sam was a winning College Dean, my son Ellis was a camper and counselor and my nephew Cooper will be a CIT next summer. You might say Camp Manitou is a family tradition.

When I’m not organizing the Island Swim, making crêpes,  or planning food tours, I run Sipa USA, an international photo agency in New York City, where I also live. We specialize in entertainment, news and sports photography for many of the world’s top media companies. Our photos are published daily on web sites, in magazines, newspapers and books.  We distribute our photos through a worldwide network of partners in more than 40 countries. On any given day, I’m talking with correspondents about photo coverage from Beijing to Rio de Janeiro, from Los Angeles to Prague. For really important events, you might find me in the White House Press Room, the United States Capitol, on the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards or on the field at the Super Bowl. On really busy days, we might edit and distribute more than 2,000 photos.

To stay in shape for the Island Swim (last summer I did 21 full swims), I train with Red Tide Masters Swim Team in New York, where I also serve on the Board of Directors.  I also run and bike in Central Park. I have completed more than 50 triathlons (including a full Ironman distance race and the SOS, an eight-stage triathlon in New Paltz, NY); 15 marathons, and 30 open water swims around New York including swimming around Liberty Island, Governor’s Island and a relay around Manhattan. I have been part of the ManEx Reach the Beach relay team (along with other staff and directors from Manitou) running 200 miles across New Hampshire to raise awareness of for Experience Camp.

In addition to Red Tide, I also serve on the board of directors of the Paris American Club and the New York Athletic Club.
